Seven years have lapsed
since the Speed\Kill/Hate debut Acts of Insanity, an Overkill spinoff featuring the past and present alumni – Dave Linsk, Tim Mallare and Derek Tailer. Speed\Kill/Hate has come back strongly with another killer album in Out for Blood (Hammerfist Records). This album has everything for thrash and death metal fans in terms of songwriting and speed. The opening track is no-nonsense and straight to business. It is an in-your-face kind of a song. The guitar blazes
through with a thundering vocals and lightning Drums. It is one of the best ways to start an aggressive album and set a tone which will make the fans go dizzy. “No Remorse” is a track which speaks volumes for the talent of Speed\Kill/Hate, and there is no letting off as the song ends. “Breeding Hate” will break your neck and it is one of the best tracks on the album. There are some lead parts in between which are studded well with vocals and bass guitar. The highlight of the album is the track “Behind the Mask.” It is a mid-paced track to start off, but the pace picks up towards the middle – an attempt to infuse some new elements

to the old-school format. Adding in some death elements to the mix is another thing which is worth speaking about. But one of the most impressive elements concerning Out for Blood is its tightness in the music, amply evident all through. This album is sequenced for maximum head-banging, blood-rushed playability. The band’s obvious wealth of experience serves to make the record flow freely. The past experience has helped them to write ground breaking songs. There are some parts which can be compared to some older bands – but all said and done; it is a darn good album. Overall the musicianship of each member is commendable. They have mixed powerful militaristic beats with chord washes and locked-down rhythm guitar thunder. The leads parts of the track “Deceiver” is simply amazing, as they make the guitar literally cry to give a rustic feel. Dave’s playing is something which has to be mentioned at least a thousand times; with Bob’s razor-lined bark serving as the perfect addition. The combination is remarkable and they have supported each other very well. The drumming throughout the album is very progressive unlike usual thrash metal acts which have three or four beats repeated on and on.
The production is good and feels at home. Thrash metal bands have always given a lot of importance to production – similar is the case with Speed\Kill/Hate. There are a few things which could have been bettered; but nothing to take away from the quality of the album. The cover art is entirely uninspiring, nothing more than a drab variation of the debut. The song titles are quite similar to other bands. All this apart, Out for Blood is a good album which can be heard a lot of times. Go grab a copy and support this band! speedkillhate.com
