The entire Black/Death or “War Metal” as some people call it (regardless of whether or not it has anything to do with the art of combat or warfare at all) is so incredibly overdone that just hearing the term is becoming tiresome. Nyogthaeblisz offers something much more intense than any other band that has ever existed. I mean this quite literally.

“Apocryphal…” offers approximately forty minutes of material compiled from every release with the exception of the recent 7″. This is music that needs to be heard to be believed. The only english word I can really use to describe the music is just “evil.” If you play this album at maximum volume I can assure you that within about two or three minutes you’ll be getting the full effect. This music is absolutely painful to listen to. Of course I mean this in a good way. With that being said, max volume is the only way you should listen to “Apocryphal…” Those who can bear the abhorrent and scathing sounds produced by the guitars and vocals will find that beneath this complete and uncontrollable insanity lies real genius.

To put it in simple terms, this is the evolution of Black and Death metal. A step further into uncharted territory. Nyogthaeblisz is a band that defies preconceived boundaries and enters a void within the musical spectrum. In this void the band uses their instruments to both create and destroy. The material is just so incredibly harsh and raw sounding that I can see a lot of people being turned off by it. It takes somebody with a masochistic taste in music to really appreciate this compilation on a regular basis. Even die hard fans of bands like Revenge might have a hard time getting on board with this release. Don’t expect a lot of clarity and certainly don’t put this album in if you’re hoping for much variation. I can almost promise that Nyogthaeblisz didn’t have anyone but themselves in mind when this material was crafted. Art like this is meant to serve as a catharsis or is part of a much larger picture in regards to the musicians themselves. If it develops a fan base in the process I’m sure that’s fine too. If you want my honest recommendation? Listen to a few of the tracks first. I think this band collectively will be drawing a lot of lines in the sand, even within the underground metal sub-genres. I personally love the material on this compilation but I’ve already held conversations with plenty of people who feel it’s just too much. If you fall into the latter category then maybe you need to re-evaluate why it is you started listening to music like this to begin with.

Nyogthaeblisz represents a state of pure possession. A mindset that is so far gone and warped that the only way it can express itself is through heavy distortion, noise and copious amounts of reverb.
